NIN REGISTRATION

NIN

It was earlier stated by JAMB’s board that the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration will only be possible for candidates that have registered and obtained their NINs. Read Full News. This means that any candidate who has not registered for NIN will not be allowed to register for UTME.

In view of this, it is important for candidates to know more about the NIN registration process and guidelines in obtaining it before the 2020 UTME registration begins. 2020 UTME Candidates are equally advised to start preparing for their exams using the JAMB CBT software and JAMB CBT app (visit examprep.ng)

Definition

What is NIN? – NIN simply means National Identification Number. It consists of 11 numbers randomly chosen and uniquely assigned to an individual after the completion of enrollment into the National Identity Database (NIDB).

The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify his/her identity. All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above are eligible to enrol for their NINs.

NIN Registration Process

Note: applicants who cannot read nor write should be accompanied by a literate individual who can do the form filling for him/her.

JAMB 2020 REGISTRATION

JAMB News

The NIN registration is not a JAMB policy but a directive from the Federal Government as defined in the law establishing National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

In readiness for the UTME 2020 registration, the board has given more information about the procedure for registration as seen in the video clip released by JAMB (View Clip Here). JAMB insists that a candidate must have obtained the National Identity Number (NIN) before registering for UTME/DE and ONLY ONE mobile number can be used by one candidate to register for the exam.

After a candidate has obtained his NIN, assuming it is 1234567890, the candidate will be required to create a profile code through his/her mobile number by sending an SMS in the format “NIN 1234567890” to 55019. After sending the SMS, he/she would receive a confirmation message with his/her Profile Code, and the full name used to register the NIN. This will be used for pre-registration checking.

If there is any error in the bio-data, candidates are to seek correction from any NIMC office.

The Profile Code is what will be required for you to purchase the 2020 UTME/DE registration e-pin.

Please Note:

  • Do not give your password to anybody, not even JAMB
  • Do not register twice. Note that you cannot take both UTME and DE for the same year; however, you can upgrade from UTME to DE at a free cost
  • Any error during registration is to be corrected by JAMB
  • There will be no extension for the registration date (both UTME and DE)

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wants to bring to the notice of prospective candidates for UTME/DE that all CBT centres are grouped and linked to NIMC registration outlets in such a way that when candidates appear for registration and do not have NIN, they would be taken to the closest NIMC registration outlets for their NIN registration. NIMC has also assured the Board that such candidates would be given priority when they are brought to the registration points.

Official Cost for the JAMB Registration:

  • UTME/DE form is N3,500
  • Novel is N500
  • CBT service charge is N700
  • Ensure you only pay the above prices that have been approved by JAMB.

If you have any questions, please use the comment section.

NIN REGISTRATION: Matters Arising.

The quest on NIN registration is now increased and highly important as applicants for the 2020 UTME will not be registered without it.

The board’s spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin has urged candidates to ensure they are have their NIN before the UTME registration which will commence in January 2020.

According to him, the NIN will aid the acquisition of the registration documents as it already entails the recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the 10 fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature (which cannot be replicated or duplicated) as well as managing logistics and checking fraud.

He also forewarned that “No excuses will be entertained”.

Note that the minimum age for the NIN registration is 15; i.e. anyone below the age of 15 years cannot register for NIN and UTME.

Some fears have started arising from this demand of NIN registration based on the stress people undergo to get registered and to obtain the document. This issue was raised and one of the officials (name withheld) reassures the complainant that they are working to address and make sure everyone gets registered before UTME registration commences.

However, JAMB Spokesman, Dr Benjamin, said the board would work something out with NIMC.

He said: “We are talking with NIMC about the registration.  We have not come up with anything yet.  But we are looking at a situation whereby we can do the registration for the candidates. We are hoping we will come up with something that can be of mutual benefit to the candidates, NIMC and every other person involved.”
