Independence Day Euphoria

A nation is not defined by its borders or the boundaries of its land mass. Rather, a nation is defined by adverse people who have been unified by a cause and a value system and who are committed to a vision for the type of society they wish to live in and give to the future generations to come.
— Fela Durotoye

Happy new month to all and sundry.

Two days ago, Nigeria marked its 59th Independence Anniversary and during this event, the number one citizen of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, told Nigerians that the nation must show commitment towards real change to improve the nation’s fortunes.

The president said this during his Independence Day speech early on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, to commemorate Nigeria’s independence from British colonialists in 1960.

He then reiterated a point he made in his 2015 Independence Day speech about Nigerians being law-abiding citizens to bring about real change.

He said, “In the past four years, the majority of Nigerians have committed to change for the better.

“Indeed, this administration was re-elected by Nigerians on a mandate to deliver positive and enduring change โ€“ through maintaining our national security; restoring sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development; and fighting corruption against all internal and external threats.

“This change can only be delivered if we are united in purpose, as individuals and as a nation.

“We must all remain committed to achieving this positive and enduring Change.

“As I stated four years ago, ‘Change does not just happen. We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust.

“‘Simply put, to bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.'”

Bringing back to mind the Millennial Theme song, as culled from https://rezolutespeaks.wordpress.com/2019/10/01/happy-59th-anniversary-to-nigeria/ , it is believed that we have everything in our disposal to be a great country. Let’s relive the lyrics of the song as shown below:

Nigeria, a land of plenty;
May the good things of life
Come our way.
In the new millennium
We can make it happen โ€“
Each and everyone of us
Has got a part to play.

Nigeria, a people united
A future assured
Join hands letโ€™s take Nigeria higher.

Thereโ€™s so much we can do
Between me and you,
Discipline, tolerance
Make them your watch word;
Respecting each other
Loving one another:
Staying together
One people, one future.

Good roads, electricity,
A sound health programโ€ฆ
All we need is discipline
To manage our resources.
Make this 59th independence (originally 54th independence)
Joyful for everyone
Water, food, shelter,
All the good things of lifeโ€ฆ.

Who says Nigeria cannot be great again?

We can revive this land.

We can restore her glory.

Our leaders can be free from all forms of corruption.

And the followers can live a life free from crime.

We are blessed.

God has given us natural resources at our disposal.

Stop the killings.

Stop the fightings.

Stop the violence.

Stop the discrimination.

Stop the unlawful arrest.

Stop the illegal businesses.

Letโ€™s make this country great.

We can do it.

You can do it.

I can do it.

God bless Nigeria.

God bless our leaders.

God bless the followers.

God bless the infants.

God bless the children.

God bless the youths.

God bless the adults.

God bless the aged.

God bless you.

God bless me.

Live, Love and Laughโ€ฆ.
